How much does sports card grading cost?

At CCA, sports card grading costs $8 per card on Bulk when you send 10 or more, or $10 per card on Standard with no minimum. Express is $25 and Walk-Through is $75.

CCA service levels for sports card grading
Service levelPer cardMinimumEstimated turnaroundIncluded coverage
Bulk$810 cards7–14 daysup to $100 per card
Standard$10None5–10 daysup to $250 per card
Express$25None3–5 daysup to $500 per card
Walk-Through$75None24–48 hoursup to $1,500 per card

Turnaround is an estimate in calendar days, counted from confirmed intake and excluding shipping. Coverage above the included amount is 5% of the additional declared value. Prices exclude shipping.

The grading is the same on every service level; what changes is the estimated turnaround and the coverage included per card, from $100 on Bulk to $1,500 on Walk-Through. When an order's total declared value is above its included coverage, the extra coverage costs 5% of the difference. Shipping to CCA is yours to arrange and return shipping is calculated at checkout. A card that cannot be graded is not charged the grading fee.

Which sports cards can CCA grade?

Standard size cards from baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, UFC and other sports, vintage and modern: base cards, rookies, parallels, refractors, inserts and numbered cards.

Search the free card database by sport, such as basketball, baseball or football, and pick the exact card and parallel. If a card is not listed yet, add it manually with the year, set, player, number, parallel and serial number, and it is graded the same way. Cards with on card autographs can carry the Autographed designation.

If a card is a thick relic or patch card, or oversized, ask us before you send it.

How does CCA grade a sports card?

Every card gets four condition subgrades: centering, corners, edges and surface. The overall grade weights surface the most and is capped relative to the weakest subgrade, so it is not an average.

Sports cards wear in their own ways. Chrome and refractor surfaces show fine scratches and print lines under light, dark borders show edge chipping, and older cardstock softens at the corners. Each of those lands in a specific subgrade, and the cap means one clear flaw sets a ceiling on the overall grade instead of being averaged away.

The full method, including worked examples and the estimator our graders use, is on the CCA grading standards page.

How is centering measured on sports cards?

From front and back scans: the border on each side, from the cut edge to the printed frame, becomes a left/right and a top/bottom ratio, and the worse axis sets the score.

A front earns a 10 for centering at 55/45 or better and a back at 60/40 or better; the centering subgrade is the average of the two scores. Two sports examples from the public record: cert #92, a 1990 NBA Hoops Michael Jordan, measured 51/49 on the front and 64/36 on the back, and cert #25, a 2026 Bowman Jacob Misiorowski, was 50/50 side to side but 65/35 top to bottom, so the vertical axis set its front score.

Measure your own card with the card centering calculator, or read how we measure centering.

What do the label and the cert show?

The label identifies the card the way collectors look it up: year or season, set, player, card number and the parallel when there is one, with the overall grade and the certification number.

The public cert adds the parts a label has no room for: all four subgrades, the measured centering for both sides, and front and back scans of the slab. Anyone can check a CCA slab on the certificate lookup, which helps when you sell. If you would rather not list cards yourself, CCA can sell graded cards for you through eBay consignment.

How do I get sports cards graded?

Create a free account, choose a service level, add your cards with a declared value, review the itemized total, then ship the cards with the packing slip.

Sleeve each card, place it in a semi rigid holder and pack the stack snugly between cardboard in a box. Your dashboard shows every stage after we receive the package, and you reveal grades card by card when the order is complete. The step by step guide is on how CCA grading works.

Which sports cards are worth grading?

Cards where the graded value is likely to exceed the raw value by more than the full cost of grading, and cards you want protected and verifiable regardless of price.

That usually means rookies and key players, numbered parallels, autographs and vintage cards in strong condition. Compare recent sold prices for raw and graded copies, check centering before you send, and look at the surface under a bright light. The Population Report shows what CCA has graded by sport:

Is a CCA grade the same as a PSA, SGC or BGS grade?

No. Each company grades to its own published standards, so the same number from two graders does not mean the same thing.

CCA publishes the subgrades and measured centering behind every grade, so buyers can judge a slab directly. For starting prices and turnaround at the larger graders, with the date the figures were reported, see how to choose a grading company and the PSA vs CGC comparison.
